SC The Underground Scrapbook Main Kit

I’m trying to get into the rhythm of photographing and blogging about my projects. There is so much amazing talent out there that sometimes I’m a bit self conscious about my attempts. But I have to remember that I do it all for myself, no one else, and it is all part of my creative journey.

The Underground main scrapbook kit didn’t really inspire me at first. I wasn’t sure how I’d put all the different papers together. But I was inspired by this Sunday Sketch and decided to take a stab at utilizing this particular kit.

For my first layout I decided to rotate the sketch and split up my photo into quarters. How beautiful is that view?? It was from the last stop on our honeymoon, the Six Senses Yao Noi resort, which was definitely one of the most amazing places that I’ve been lucky enough to visit. I thought the different shades of green worked nicely with the colors of the sunrise (we woke up super early one day to catch it – it was worth it!), and the bright coral doily played off of it as well.
SC_Oct_Scrap1_2The second layout used the sketch as it was, and I love the way the patterned papers go nicely with the fall-themed photo. I thought my puppies looked adorable with the fall foliage in the backdrop  when they were back home after their walk.

SC_Oct_Scrap2_1 SC_Oct_Scrap2_2 SC_Oct_Scrap2_3The patterned vellum is so pretty, and I wanted to use it for my journalling. The journalling lines are from Ali Edwards’ Get Real Story Stamp, and the rest of the stamps are from her Prompts Story Stamp. I’m a huge fan of Ali and her scrapbooking style, and her stamps are great for sharing any story. I used Memento Luxe ink in Tuxedo Black and Grey Flannel for this bit of journalling.

I’m pretty proud to have completed multiple projects with each Studio Calico kit for The Underground (scrapbook, card, and Project Life). Sometimes I don’t have time to get to everything, and things may sit there for a few weeks without even being opened. I’m re-evaluating all of my subscriptions right now, since I have accumulated so much stuff in the few short years that I’ve been dabbling in this hobby.

SC The Underground Project Life Kit

I’m majorly behind on my Project Life album for 2014 (lots and lots of gaps) but I’m slowly working on catching up. Don’t think I’ll be done by the end of the year, but a girl can try!! It’s a bit overwhelming because I have so many photos to sort and organize, but I think I just need to bite the bullet and print out a ton of pictures and just go with it.

Week 41 was easy because it included a long visit with my sister in New Jersey and a wedding in Richmond! I decided to use “The Underground”  Project Life kit for this week because it included lovely fall colors. I used mostly cards from the kit, and added in some cards from the Amy Tangerine “Cut & Paste” mini PL kit because the colors seemed to work together.

SC_Oct_PL_LeftFor this week’s title card, I used both the printed tag card and circle 2014 stamp that was included in the kit. The dates were stamped using a Heidi Swapp date stamp (love the cursive months!) and the “wow” stamp is from a Technique Tuesday/Ali Edwards stamp set. The week number was added using two kinds of  Thickers.

I feel like all my sister and I did while her husband was out of town for work was eat yummy things, go for walks, and watch lots of reality TV. It was so much fun, even though I have a slightly guilty conscience at leaving my new husband home alone with the two terrors (the puppies). The weather had definitely started to cool down, and I love it! Fall is my favorite season and I love a good cozy sweater & scarf combo. (I know I may be whistling a different tune after a few months of cold and snow.)

The selfie is from my Amtrak train ride to Richmond to attend a friend’s wedding. I felt so awkward taking it on the train but it didn’t bother me too much. I love taking the train, it’s so relaxing and I got a ton of reading done. (Cue another guilty pang because Will has to drive to Richmond from Louisville after a full day of work to attend the wedding with me.)

SC_Oct_PL_RightThe right side of this week’s Project Life spread was devoted to Lauren & Alex’s wedding in Richmond. Both the ceremony and reception were held on a beautiful plantation along the James River just a bit outside of the city. Both the house and the grounds were gorgeous, and I had so much fun celebrating with the happy couple along with my sorority sisters!

The last photo in the spread is from our drive back to Louisville. The weather was dreary the whole time, but I love roadtrips!! Probably because Will always drives the whole way, and I don’t have to worry about it. But I love the chats that we have on long drives and I always feel like I’m on an adventure whenever we’re together.

SC The Underground Card Kit

I really love getting Studio Calico’s card kit in the mail, the stamps are adorable and I always love having an interesting variety of patterned paper, that I normally wouldn’t have bought. The October kit was called “The Underground”, and I really enjoyed playing with it to make four different thank you cards (that are seasonally appropriate). I love sending hand stamped thank you cards, and I’ve been a busy bee working on sending mine out from the wedding!

SC_Oct_Card1_2Whenever I get a kit in the mail, I like to try to create using the kit exclusively, then later adding in items from my stash. Really loved the stamp this month, the pumpkin shape and the “thanks very much” will definitely get used a lot. Stamped the pumpkin on a piece of orange cardstock, then cut it out & popped it up with some foam dots. Layered a few of the awesome fall-inspired papers, tied a bit of the included twine, and embellished with the black dots.

SC_Oct_Card3_2For the second card, I stamped circles with autumn toned chalk inks, then stamped them again without re-inking. Did the same on a bit of patterned paper, then hand cut it out. The kit this month included a darling feather metal die (along with an arrow), and I used it on some of the included copper metallic cardstock. I love using kraft as a card base, especially with these rich tones.

Welcome to Rosa in KY!

2014-09-30 13.37.19-1Hello & welcome to ‘Rosa in KY’, which is just a little spot where I’ll be sharing my craft-y adventures! I’ve written a fashion blog & run an etsy store in the past, but lately I’ve been more excited about creating, designing, and making things, just because I want to. The name of the blog has two meanings. I’m Rosa, and I’m currently located in Kentucky. But I also love getting “inky”, whether it’s with stamps, mists, or paints. I’m a big fan of stamping, Project Life, home DIY, and sending homemade cards.

I’ve had a lot of life changes lately, I became engaged, bought a house in Louisville, and got married in the past year. The wedding & honeymoon has been a huge inspiration of photos that I can’t wait to document. I’m also working on making our house a home, and also setting up my personal craftroom/office. Yes, a real dedicated space to creating!! This is very exciting, and such a nice change from my little studio in Manhattan. So I have no excuse to let my supplies and photos sit pretty on my shelves.

Here is one of my latest scrapbook layouts. I used mostly the Studio Calico “Sandlot” main scrapbook kit and “Hercules” add-on. Main kit: “Be Happy” stamp, “Love” cut out of patterned paper, Fountain cardstock used as a photo mat. Hercules add-on: black chevron patterned paper, flowers cut out of pp, silver doily, and teal jellies. The wooden veneer banner is from the PL kit.
I really loved the patterned paper in the Hercules add-on, especially the combo of the black chevron and red/pink flowers. The silver doily added just the right amount of shine.
I’m still working on improving my photography for my projects, but I’m excited to start sharing what I’m working on!
